Hi, Terri,

Happy Thanksgiving!

(Other than the above statement, this comment has nothing to do with your current post)

I don't know if you remember, but many months ago I had posted a reply to your blog of Sunday, April 27, 2012 (under my Avery Smithkin pseudonym to http://beatlebabe84.blogspot.com/2012/04/poetic-confessions-3-songs-in-key-of.html), about your "poem of the day" from April 1, 2012, A Dying Soul. I mentioned that had put your poem to music, but had no way to record it. Well, I hadn't really had a chance to get back to this, or even pick up the guitar in months, but I had an idea this morning that maybe I could use the video on my point-and-shoot camera to capture it. So that's what I did.

It's not very good for a number of reasons. First, the microphone in the camera doesn't really pick up sounds in a wide range of frequencies, so some of the music gets lost. Then I had to move the camera so close to the guitar to pick up anything at all that some of the voice disappears. Which, considering it's my voice, is a huge improvement. And having to balance the camera on a drawer while bracing it with one leg made it a bit awkward to play. Also, the slight cold I have didn't help. There's a section at the end where I have to fill in between verses because I thought I was going to sneeze.

Anyway, what I got was the best of a couple of tries, and I thought I'd post it out there on Google Docs where you could access it. If you're interested, you can go to my blogger profile on www.theworldofkrsmith.com and get my e-mail address. If you send me an email, I can get your e-mail address and send you a "invite" or link to access the video. This way, your address won't be out in public if you don't want that. It can be any e-mail address you have access to - it doesn't have to be the Google address. The video is a .wmv file that plays under Windows Media Player. There's also a text file with the poem's "lyrics" modified for use in a song.

It's not something good enough for YouTube or that I want everyone to hear, but it would give you an idea of what I was thinking when I put it to music. Of course, you might listen to it and say, "What was he thinking?" And that's OK, too! It's your poem, and you have that right!
