Prepping The Project

The children's book project I started last week has consumed most of my time, which is good because that just means I'm more determined to see it through. I have also been considering a more serious approach to getting the project out there by using a project funding website such as IndieGoGo. A few weeks ago I saw this story about Kickstarter and fell in love with the idea that writers, filmmakers and artists can reach out the community to get their projects completed.

I wasn't thinking about my own work at first, but now I'm leaning towards putting my project up there to see what happens. In terms of networking, though, my reach is a little small. Before I take the plunge, I just wanted to ask: has anyone tried any of these websites? If you have, were you successful in raising the money for your project?

No, I haven't tried this, nor do I know of anyone who has, but looking over the websites it appears that a lot of others have.

Things to consider are how much you can realistically expect to raise and what type of perks to give to those who donate. One interesting suggestion I saw was to break the project into phases and just raise money for that (such as, getting artwork done or hiring an editor, etc.).

As far as networking - if you do decide to do this, let me know the website for the project and I'll post it on my blogs. I'm not sure how much help that will be, but it's a start. I think there's this one person in the Netherlands who reads them - I'm not sure why - but there you go! International exposure!

Thanks! I'll be deciding in the next day or so when/where to put up the project.
