I love that NanoWriMo holds camp twice a year--that means I get to fully immerse myself in one of my ideas for yet another month. This time, my cabin mates are all from or have been published in Luna Station Quarterly. In July I will be working on something that I have yet to attempt. I still can't really pinpoint what genre it would be. It's about a fictional island in the Pacific. Although our current world exists in this world, they know little of it.
That's very vague, I know. But until I get working on it, I'm not sure I can reveal much more.
I've also got to get back on the revision bandwagon. I really want to get last November's project to the submission phase, whether that's another self-published title or (hopefully) published through a great indie publisher that seems to fit with what I'm working on. July will be a busy month writing away. And I'm going to love it. ;-)

Labor Day
I know it's Labor Day and everyone is kicking back, enjoying a short vacation. I'm not. I slept in though. That counts as a mini-vacation, right?
Since it's a vacation, I'll keep this post relatively short and just point you to this:
If you missed Saturday's post on TSW, here's a quick recap:
Just Published in Luna Station Quarterly
Issue 11 is out at Luna Station Quarterly and my short story "Second Shadow" is published in it. Go and check it out, then let me know what you think. :)
So, if you haven't checked it out already... what are you waiting for? :)
It's funny. Luna Station Quarterly is an online magazine that specializes in speculative fiction written by women authors. About two years ago I was asked to read and review a book of speculative fiction short stories. Diving into the book, I had no idea what speculative fiction was and couldn't really get a solid definition anywhere else. Although I didn't really enjoy the book, I did finally get an idea on what it was all about. Then I realized I actually had some speculative fiction of my own. The story now published under that umbrella was actually something I had presented to a class workshop in college. Who knew I was writing in a genre I didn't know about yet?

Getting a Hard Shove in the Right Direction
This weekend was another whirlwind. I helped move more things for other people that I didn't even know we all had (cleaning out a garage--not as much fun as it sounds). I did get some pretty good Indian food out of it though. What I really wanted to do this weekend was to dive in my boxes and start getting stuff out to sell. That didn't happen, but I hope get the ball rolling on that one this week.
And that whole "I'm not letting myself get comfortable in the new place" thing? I don't have to worry about that. I'm being reminded, almost hourly, that I need to move and I'm not supposed to be here for more than a couple of months. While my family may think this is their way of finally supporting my decision to leave for New York, it's getting to the point where it's insulting. I don't really need to be reminded that often that I should leave. Trust me, I don't want to be here in the first place.
As for the writing... I did get good news yesterday. One of my short stories will be published over at Luna Station Quarterly in September. It's another step forward on the creative side of the writing, but in terms of the day-today stuff, well, that's it's usual dullness with the occasional hint of frustration.
Maybe I owe this all to the cricket living under my bed right now... they are supposed to be good luck when they enter your home--as long as you don't squish them into oblivion.
